Medical technology for more normality in patients' everyday lives - Medica 2016

10/13/2016

Innovative medical products should ensure the success of treatments and improve the quality of patients' and users’ lives . With these objectives always in mind, the family-managed medical technology manufacturer pfm medical has been developing, producing and distributing high-quality products for over 40 years. Visitors to this year's Medica will be able to gain additional insight in the comprehensive range of goods and services from 14.11. to 17.11. in Düsseldorf (Hall 7a, Stand No. B05). During the fair the company group will be showing how treatment for outpatients and in hospital can be optimised, thanks to special solutions.

Whether pain therapy, artificial feeding, or chemotherapy – with the LimLess infusion pump developed by pfm medical patients can receive any form of infusion therapy in the home environment. In the process, the pump's dual processor system ensures a high degree of security, because all safety-relevant components are installed twice. In this principle, which is widely-used in the aerospace industry and space travel, the independent systems mutually monitor each other. The infusion pump can be operated easily and intuitively using the graphical user interface. In addition, the light and compact design of LimLess gives patients a high degree of mobility.

Less work for doctor and patient

Medical technology from pfm medical can not only shift hospital-based therapies to outpatient treatment, but also reduce the effort combined with visits to doctors’ surgeries or hospitals. For example, many patients who suffer from recurring pleural effusion or ascites (accumulation of fluid) have to go to a doctor for the regular puncture which is necessary. The Asept continuous drainage catheter system offers patients an effective treatment alternative within their own four walls. Principle symptoms such as breathlessness already improve during the drainage. The implantation of the catheter takes place using a minimally invasive operation. The drainage itself is also easy and safe for people without a nursing background, and can be carried out by the patient, their family, or a care service.

Both Asept and LimLess were developed and produced by pfm medical mepro, the largest subsidiary in the company group. They are part of a holistic solution range from pfm medical for outpatient treatment. This consists of a comprehensive product portfolio, together with services in close cooperation with local care staff.

Medical technology is also something the company takes to heart – implants for life

pfm medical does not only have many years of expertise in outpatient care. Also in highly sensitive fields such as cardiology the company provides special solutions, and has developed the unique Nit-Occlud spiral coil system in close collaboration with cardiologists. The Nit-Occlud Lê VSD can be interventionally fitted to repair a hole in the cardiac septum (ventricular septal defect) – even for small children. The implant grows into the tissue and stays in the body for life. The spiral coil system permits a flexible and exact-fitting application, and can in this way greatly reduce the risk of complications, such as permanent cardiac arrhythmia (atrioventricular block).

At Medica visitors can inform themselves comprehensively about these and further products and services from pfm medical.
