New: TiLOOP® Bra Pocket – the first synthetic mesh for prepectoral implant-based breast reconstruction
pfm medical expands its product range of titanium-coated mesh implants
Cologne – With the new TiLOOP® Bra Pocket pfm medical becomes the world's only manufacturer to offer a pocket of titanium-coated, synthetic mesh material for prepectoral breast reconstruction, for instance after mastectomy with preservation of skin and nipple. In plastic-esthetic breast surgery, too, it represents a new option for primary or corrective augmentation. Studies on prepectoral breast reconstruction show a very good capsular contraction rate with simultaneous high capsule quality. Through fixation of the implant pocket directly to the intact breast muscle, both implant and muscle remain in physiological position, and the patients profit from the resulting esthetic and functional advantages.
About thirty per cent of all patients with breast cancer require a mastectomy. After skin- and nipple-sparing mastectomy, implant-based breast reconstruction is the most frequent method of breast restoration. There are two basic options: subpectoral or prepectoral positioning of the implant. The advantage of prepectoral reconstruction is that the muscle need not be separated from the ribcage. That means less postoperative pain, fast convalescence, and retention of muscle function.
TiLOOP® Bra Pocket: innovative solution for prepectoral reconstruction
The TiLOOP® Bra Pocket, which is available in three sizes, is packaged ready to use, and the implant can be placed directly into the mesh pocket. This eliminates any need for tedious intraoperative adaptation of the mesh, for instance through sutures, or any need for hydration. This not only shortens the period of anesthesia for the patient; in the end, it also reduces costs.
Thanks to the prepectoral placement, the breast implant occupies the physiological position of the subcutaneous breast tissue, leading to good esthetic outcomes. In addition, the good stretching elasticity of the mesh meets the physiological demands of shoulder movements and ptosis. Together with preservation of muscle, the mobility of the arms is maintained, and the patients experience hardly any restrictions in everyday life.
In some countries, prepectoral breast reconstruction is already an established procedure in plastic and esthetic surgery, for example in Italy. "My experience so far shows that the risks of intraoperative and postoperative complications can be decreased through the use of the TiLOOP® Bra Pocket. In addition, patients profit from shorter surgery times and recover faster afterwards. Since the muscle remains intact, rapid and pain-free mobilization is possible, and the patients can quickly resume their daily activities", explains Dr. Donato Casella, Italy. The specialist in breast reconstruction was involved decisively in the development of the mesh pocket.
pfm medical: market-leading provider of synthetic meshes in the area of breast reconstruction
TiLOOP® Bra mesh implants are type 1a polypropylene meshes with a titanium-coated, hydrophilic surface. They are extremely light and thin and are therefore very well suited for the sensitive breast area. Since 2003 these meshes, which are developed and manufactured in Germany, have been used successfully in hernia, descensus, and incontinence surgery; and they have been used in breast surgery since 2008. In comparison to non-titanium-coated polypropylene meshes, the titanium coating leads to a lower risk of inflammation and thus to less scar formation and less mesh shrinkage. As a reliable partner of many years, with great expertise in the area, pfm medical now offers another innovative solution in the area of breast reconstruction – the TiLOOP® Bra Pocket. Whether prepectoral (TiLOOP® Bra Pocket), subpectoral reconstruction/augmentation (TiLOOP® Bra), or mastopexia/reduction/symmetry surgery (TiLOOP® Bra MPX) – the TiLOOP® Bra product family has the right solution for every indication in breast surgery.
