The first combined low-vacuum/ gravitational system for long-term drainage treatment of ascites
Treating ascites at home
With the ASEPT® Drainage Kit L, pfm medical is now the only manufacturer on the German market to offer combined low-vacuum/gravitational bottles for pain-reduced long-term drainage of ascites. The main components of the set are drop-resistant and puncture-resistant low-vacuum plastic bottles, which can be altered to gravitational use with a flick of the wrist.
Ascites can mean an additional burden on top of primary illnesses, such as cancer or cirrhosis of the liver. As an alternative treatment to regular inconvenient puncturing in hospital, pfm medical offers products and services for long-term outpatient drainage treatment. Thanks to the ASEPT® Drainage System, which is approved for all types of ascites, the main symptoms such as shortness of breath and nausea can be reduced effectively during the drainage.
Pain-reduced drainage, even of larger quantities – simply and hygienically
If ascites patients develop large quantities of fluid and high pressure in the peritoneal area, or the patient is very sensitive to pain, then drainage without suction is the recommended course of treatment. Conventional gravitational drainage systems can have the disadvantage that blockages (so-called occlusions) in the catheter or valve which are caused by proteins or blood are not always dissolved. These can, for example, develop as a result of longer intervals between drainage sessions. The combined low-vacuum/gravitational bottles in the ASEPT® Drainage Kit L can actively dissolve such occlusions by means of initial suction through the low vacuum. With just one flick of the wrist, the application can subsequently be changed to gravity, thus enabling almost completely pain-free drainage. This might spare the patient visiting the hospital again.
The easy handling is also based on bottles which have self-closing Luer Lock valves which are connected to the catheters implanted in the patients. This valve ensures a stable connection, even after frequent use and without additional safety clip.
For patients with high intraperitoneal pressure as a result of large quantities of fluid, the ASEPT® Drainage Kit L offers not only bottles with a volume of 1,000 ml, but also a larger twin bottle version. Thus up to 3,000 ml of puncture fluid can be drained using just one connection. Besides the new low-vacuum/gravitational solution, pfm medical also offers high-vacuum systems from ASEPT® for rapid drainage of ascites and pleural effusions.
